Christie’s Puts Up Dazzling Jewels for Auction in Geneva

The biggest “flawless” heart-shaped diamond to ever appear at auction will go under the hammer at Christie’s in Geneva later this month.

The dazzling jewel is expected to be purchased for close to $20 million. A 92-carat pendant held by a pearl sautoir is the auction’s showcase piece, set for May 17 at the incredibly luxurious Four Seasons des Bergues hotel on the pristine shores of Lake Geneva.

Despite the jewel’s “pure quality and magnitude”, the necklace is unlikely to garner the huge sums paid for smaller coloured diamonds in recent years. In Hong Kong last month the 59.60-carat “Pink Star” fetched a record $71.2 million (65.1 million euros), a price that proved how energised the market for rare pink and blue diamonds is.
Film aficionados will have the opportunity to bid on a set of ruby and diamond earrings and matching bracelet gifted to the late Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor in 1957 by her then-husband, director and producer, Mike Todd. Christie’s expects the piece to sell for close to $500,000.

250 lots will be on offer at the auction, attended by buyers from across the globe who are no strangers to dishing out exorbitant amounts of cash for the very best life has to offer in the wealth department.
